Apr. 11th, 2010 02:52 pmOKAY DERA MADE AN APPARENTLY WEIRD CHOICE IN THE GAME LAST NIGHT. When he chose to drop Cygnus into the pit o darkness. (It is important to note that ICly it got decided that he pressed that button AFTER their grate fell since I was slow on commenting and that is a thing he would have done, but he would have chosen them anyway!) And I figured it was worth explaining what the hell he was thinking at the time because that is a choice that's unexpected.
WHY HE WOULD HAVE CHOSEN THEM ANYWAY as explained via a handy chart. Greyed out people weren't present (unless I missed someone somewhere).
Basically in ordinary circumstances it would have come down to them or Monoceros and Monoceros would have lost. He has about the same level of attachment to all the people who were present on those teams (which is to say NONE with hints of very mild dere for the girls) but thinking about Tenth's future disappointment would have pushed the decision towards Monoceros. BUT Stephan handing him the dolls pinged him as a really good thing to do 8( And he noticed Monoceros enough in that moment to notice that they seemed to feel bad so he lost some anger at them for Vulp getting taken too. And even if he's a dick he's not enough of one to turn around and kick a team who was nice and remorseful immediately beforehand (without prodding).
Canis and Lacerta were solid outs for IC political or superdere reasons, so that left Cygnus and Orion. Cygnus would earn him Tenth's disappointment and possible anger, Orion would mean he was kicking a team he already tried to kill in a fit of rage once headed by a leader who'd basically saved his life twice (once AFTER he'd tried to kill them). So uh. 8|a TWO PEOPLE who had saved him after he tried to murder them. Tenth is a stronger influence, but he wasn't in the game! Jim was! But even that still left everything roughly equal 8(a So I flipped a coin and Cygnus lost. (If Tenth had been present it would have gone back to Monoceros losing again though. 8|a But as it was he felt roughly the same levels of attachment(or reluctance to start shit again in Cloud's case) towards the present members of Cygnus as he did Monoceros, so.)
tl;dr Dera is still primarily run by emotions and chooses people to toss based on who he wants to save least at any given moment.
